Barbara Cole
Barbra Cole was born in 1953 in Toronto Canada. Her work has been showcased in Canadian embassies in Washington, D.C, Tokyo, Japan as well as engaging in commissions for Breast Cancer, Hospitals and Trump Hollywood Florida. She has won numerous awards and has also been involved with a documentary series which is called “Snapshot: The Art of Photography II”.
Her theme of work is very much about creating photographs that look like paintings. Her focus is on transforming the human figure and identity. She uses a slow shutter speed to create a watercolour effect within her photographs, often hides the face of her models and uses the distortion that water creates to bend and alter the human figure in interesting ways.
I personally really like her work because unlike other photographers who use photography as a way to capture more realistic imagery whereas her whole concept is to try and make them look like paintings which makes her stand out.
