FMP Proposal

Project Proposal – FMP Y2.

Project Title – Blue Tranquility

Over the past year I have explored many different styles of photography, including Landscape, Documentary, Film, Events and Fashion. Of these my favorite was Fashion as I really enjoy taking portrait photographs of people and being able to experiment within a studio with different lighting techniques and models.
During year 1, I decided to push myself further by engaging in two water-based shoots; one of which was fully underwater. This was the moment I realized just how experimental yet challenging Photography could be, and how I could combine it with m y own personal interest in water sports.
Expanding upon this, I would like to follow a similar theme however improve on my ability to sharp focus and my post production skills, in order to create a more polished professional outcome.

My idea is to produce a series of commercial style photographs, portraying models outside, floating, partially submerged and underwater. I envision my models being quite natural looking which is uncharacteristic of the types of editorial magazines that I want my images to be for. This is because water is an organic subject and I hope to communicate the concept of natural beauty.

Some photographers that will help inform and inspire me during this project are Lara Jade, Annie Leibovitz, Benjamin Ono, Eric Zenner, Barbara Cole, Candice, Alyssa Cambell and Zena Holloway. All the photographers have unique and different styles of work. In particular I like Lara Jade’s composition of her images and I plan to use a similar style within my own photography for this project. I also like Eric Zeners work even though he is a painter. His paintings look very realistic and I find inspiration from his attention to find details and his positioning.

For part of my research I will look at some fashion magazines and try to find some articles with photographs that are linked with water photography. A magazine I have in mind is Vogue.

I plan to experiment with more advanced technology than I previously have, such as the underwater camera set from Plymouth College of Art. As well as exploring the addition of milk and bubbles and post production effects within my imagery.

Overall, I would like to try and create a tranquil dream like effect similar to the images below:

For me to know that I’ve been successful for my FMP is to have produced my final piece the way I imagined it within my head and to have done written research blog posts and to have completed at least 6 shoots.

Throughout this project I plan to evaluate the project by using work prom per critics, tutor feedback, regularly referring to my timeplan.

My final piece for the project is to have around 4 photographs printed quite big put into frames and hung up for the exhibition. I also had the idea of creating a magazine showcasing my favorite photographs from all the shoots that I did for my FMP.
